Interview And eBook Giveaway With Alice Clayton

I want to welcome author Alice Clayton to my blog. Her debut novel The Unidentified Redhead is simply amazing for a first time author.
Alice Clayton is a new novelist with an unholy love for her Kitchenaid mixer. Making her home in St Louis, she enjoys gardening but not weeding, baking but not cleaning up afterwards, and is trying desperately to get her long time boyfriend to make her an honest woman. Hi sweetie!!

The Unidentified Redhead is Alice's first novel, and first ever attempt at writing anything other than a grocery list. Imagine her surprise when she found out it was going to be published. Alice says "I wanted to write something that I would get a kick out of reading. I don't normally enjoy romance novels, but I am a sucker for a interesting story with a little...ahem...heat? But I also crave the funny. Why not combine the two? Why not funny smut? Why not comedic erotica?"

Why not indeed.

Alice would like you to know that she is no longer comfortable talking about herself in third person (Hi everyone!!*waves*) and thinks that you should simply trust her and give The Unidentified Redhead a try. She thinks you, and your significant other, will be pleased.

Alice would also like all her readers to help her convince her long time boyfriend that the only other thing that would make her truly happy is finally bringing home a Bernese Mountain Dog.
The Above Was Copied From AliceClayton.Com ( http://www.aliceclayton.com/2010/01/about-alice.html )
1) Skyla11377: What made you want to become a writer?
Alice Clayton: I never planned on becoming a writer, but I realized that as much as I love to read a good story, I enjoyed telling them as well. I always thought, well if I can knock my own socks off with a scene, or an idea, or a few lines of dialogue, maybe someone else might like to hear my story too!
2) Skyla11377: What are 5 things that you can't write without?
Alice Clayton: I honestly haven't found anything yet, so far I have been able to write about anything I want to. I'm sure as I grow into this craft, there will be blocks and things I am not able to wrap my head, or my pen, around, but so far so good.
3) Skyla11377: What was the scariest part about writing your debut novel?
Alice Clayton: Just the actual releasing of this work out into the world. It is literally the first thing I have ever written, so there are parts of it that are just raw and rough. Knowing that other people are going to read it, much less actually enjoy it?? Felt wonderful and strange all wrapped together.
4) Skyla11377: What do you hope people can take away from your story when they finish it?
Alice Clayton: Some new ideas for the bedroom? Kidding, I'm not sure...maybe that you can always come back to something, can always try again. Things change, people change, but there is something about old dreams, the ones that got away and never quite came through to fruition. You can always go back, you can always take another shot. No one should ever let age stop them from following their true passion.
5) Skyla11377: What are 1 or 2 things we wouldn't really know about you?
Alice Clayton: Hmm, thats hard to say as I have been pretty out there as far as sharing goes!! I suppose one thing that not many people know, especially my readers is that I am deathly afraid of bees. Seriously, can not handle it. I love to garden, but man oh man, nothing will make me run for the house faster than a big ol' fat bumblebee. And they can smell fear, I know this, and yet I still run like its my job, away from the bee. Second thing? Wow, this is tough, maybe that I have a secret desire to go to Egypt someday. I've been fascinated by Egypt my entire life, and I want, no I need, to go there someday.
6) Skyla11377: What inspired you to write The Unidentified Redhead?
Alice Clayton: I love the idea of an older woman with a younger man. And I love the idea of someone from your past coming back into your life, when you least expect it. But at its heart, the story of Grace is one of coming full circle in your life, and coming back to something that you have always dreamed of. Yes, theres plenty of sexy times and the relationship between Jack and Grace is the heart, but Grace is the soul of this story. I also wanted to see a fun friendship between two girlfriends, and the character of Holly is based on several of my real life girlfriends. I wanted to take all these silly people with wonderful hearts, and then set them against the backdrop of Hollywood, and the beauty that is Los Angeles.
7) Skyla11377: If you were stuck on a deserted island what 5 must have items would you have?
Alice Clayton: Lip Balm. Garlic. A DVD of the movie Clue, does a DVD player count as my 4th item? My Blackberry with some kind of lifetime battery that will never die so I can still talk to everyone I love. Joe McIntyre from New Kids...don't judge me...
8) Skyla11377: If you were not a writer what would you be doing?
Alice Clayton: I am so blessed to be able to try this new hat on, I am so grateful for the chance, any chance, to tell my stories. I am actually in the middle of a major career transition, so stay tuned!
9) Skyla11377: Were Grace and Jack based on anyone you know, or for that matter, were any of the characters?
Alice Clayton: Yes, absolutely. I tried to bring something to each and every one of these characters based on people I know in real life...and there is a Real Life Michael....
10) Skyla11377: How much of yourself, if any, did you put into your characters?
Alice Clayton: As a new writer, I would be lying to say that I didn't bring a little of myself to these characters. When I started creating this story, someone told me "write what you know". So I started there. I thought, if these were people that I could meet, would I want to hang out with them? I wanted them to sound real, I wanted the dialogue to actually sound like how we all talk to each other, so I would say each line out loud to see if it sounded real! Bottom line, I love these people.
11) Skyla11377: When you are not writing, what Do you like to do in your spare time?
Alice Clayton: I cook, I garden, I spend time with my family and friends, we love to find new restaurants in St Louis and then tell everyone else about them!
12) Skyla11377: What do you have coming up next (i.e. another book or perhaps a book signing)?
Alice Clayton: Funny you should ask...the 2nd book in the Redhead Series will be out late summer! And here's a sneak peek...

I pulled my orange scarf a little more snugly around my neck and knotted it again so it tucked right under my chin. The air was cool this morning, and the leaves fell gently around me, blown about by a blustery breeze. Fortunately, I was sheltered from most of the wind, and I took the opportunity to gaze once again at the scene before me:

Brownstones. Concrete. Yellow cabs. A deli advertising both pastrami and falafel.

I sipped my coffee regular and marveled at my life, where it had taken me. I loved New York.

The last few weeks had been amazing—and difficult. It was now October, and fall had officially come to Manhattan. The air was crisp, there were pumpkins on stoops, and I was having the time of my life. Literally. I was insanely happy.

Except, I was really missing my Brit.

Let’s go back a bit

First of all, congratulations on your first book and much success on the follow-ups.

I have a question, how many books do you see yourself writing in this series or is it one of those, you're not sure things?

Congratulations on your book!! What is your writing process like? Being a new author, do you find it's easier to plot it all out before hand, or just write as you go?

I also love the idea of an older woman with a younger man. I don't think I would like someone from my past coming back into my life, but I would love to read about this happening.
    Congrads on your book.

Alice has e-mailed me some answers for everyone so I will post them here as I get them. Also he second book is coming out next moth so Alice is very busy but she will answer your questions as soon as possible....^_^.

    Alice Clayton:
Hi Lakisha! With the outlines I have right now, there will be at least 4 books total in the Redhead Series. We'll see how chatty Jack and Grace are after that, maybe more!

    Alice Clayton:
Hey Nicole! Wow, writing process. It all depends on what I am writing I suppose, and as I begin working on new novels (just outlined something brand new, very excited) I am definitely beginning to see an actual process beginning to take shape. Typically I rough outline, sketch out a basic arc and suggestions of characters. Then I begin to slice it up into chapters, but when I actually sit down to work I just go for it. Sometimes the ideas come fast and furious, sometimes not so much. I try to step away when its not working, I am rather impatient and if its not flowing I don't try to force it. What I have learned about myself is that I don't work so well at home most of the time, too many things will begin to draw my focus. Cats, laundry, So You Think You Can Dance, etc. So I have my favorite booth at Panera!

First Off congrats on your first book! I am also a huge fan of my Kitchenaid mixer but dread cleaning it up afterwards lol Would love to read this book because of the age difference between the characters, see my husband is 24, will be 25 in October, and I am 30. So I get the whole robbing the cradle thing all the time. To be able to read a story on that kind of age difference for once would be Fabulous!!

Please enter me into the give away. I am a follower.
