Ryan Chase left Fairbanks, Alaska, when she was 21 years old to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. Somewhere along the way her dreams of stardom crashed and burned, along with her life.
Thirteen years later she is forced to return to Fairbanks because her unforgiving and emotionally-distant father has suddenly died. Ryan seizes the opportunity to not only escape her abusive husband but to be able to attend her best friend's wedding. What could go wrong? It's only Fairbanks, Alaska... While wishing she was anywhere but her father's funeral and wake, Ryan is struck senseless by a stunning, drop-dead gorgeous man. Her thoughts turn carnal and she desperately wants to know him in every way—and position—possible. There's only one problem...
He's the devil's spawn.
He's the one who marked her for life.
He's the kid she used to baby-sit.
And he's hotter than hell!
Shea Michaels has loved Ryan Chase for most of his life. After surviving an unspeakable childhood, he became a man of whom she could be proud ...if she ever came back. Now that she's returned, Shea pursues her with a vengeance, undaunted by the thirteen year age difference that Ryan uses as the shield between them.
Confusion, guilt and lust bombard Ryan as she battles the memories of the little boy she used to know while still being drawn to the heart-stopping man he has become.
***18+ due to explicit sexual situations, graphic language and intense adult themes.
From the second I heard of this book I knew I had to read it. From the first paragraph I was hooked. Cory knows how to write a story that is not only HOT but impossible to put down. I loved the fact that Cory made Ryan older than Shea. A lot of stories usually have the man as the older more dominate character. It was such a nice change of pace for the older woman to not hold the power per se but to feel like she was still desirable at thirty four to a younger man of twenty one. I am now looking forward to reading Cory's next book Reviving Haven (out July 31, 2014) which has the same older woman younger man dynamic.
Ryan Chase wants to chase her dream of becoming an actress so at twenty one she leaves home for New York in hopes of becoming a star. All that glitters is not gold for Ryan and thirteen years later she not only comes home for her father's funeral and her best friend's wedding but to escape her abusive husband and plan her next move. Upon her return Ryan spies a tall HOT guy who she would like nothing better than to get in her bed that is until she comes to realize it is Shea the little boy she used to babysit.
Andrew Seamus "Shea" Michaels knew he wanted to marry Ryan since he was eight years old. Pretty much since the day he was born Shea has had to deal with an abusive drunken father. His only reprieve from the abuse came from spending time with Ryan's dad Riley, working in his garage. When Ryan left, Shea refused to go by that nick name that she had given him. After spiraling out of control for a few years Andrew decides to become the type of man that Ryan can be proud of. Nothing could prepare Andrew for the effect Ryan has on him with her return.
Both Ryan and Shea harbor their own dark secrets. Ryan is hiding the fact that she is married to a guy named Garrison and is hiding out while Shea is hiding the extent of his father's abuse. The instant chemistry of grown up Shea and Ryan is undeniable to almost everyone. Shea sets out to claim Ryan as his one and only but Ryan is having a hard time separating Shea the little boy with Shea the man.
I am a Cory Cyr fan for life. There is so, so much I want to say about the struggles and obstacles these two characters go through but I feel it would ruin the story for everyone. Cory wrote such an AMAZING story, in my opinion. Her characters are believable and can draw real emotions from the reader. Cory doesn't sugar coat the bad things that happen to Shea and Ryan which makes for a more realistic story. I look forward to reading more books by Cory Cyr. On a scale from 1-10 I give Bite & Release a HUGE 20. This book packed such a punch (no pun intended) that my scale could not hold it....lol. I encourage everyone adult 18+ to run out and pick a copy of Bite & Release. If you are looking for a story with bite, HOT love story, conflict, and everything in between then you NEED to run and pick up this book. Open up your heart and let Shea and Ryan show you that love really can conquer all. Don't forget to look out for Reviving Haven out July 31, 2014.
