Eirik Baldurson--son of Baldur, God of Light--failed living as a Mortal. He lost the girl of his dreams and nearly got his friends killed. Now, he's gone to the underworld to meet the mother he's never known. Torn between his duty to her and the man he used to be, Eirik struggles to find himself, until a witch appears in his world. Feisty and stubborn, she is a reminder of everything good he left behind.
Celestia Devereaux proudly attends a charter high school for "gifted" teenagers who embrace magic. Witches. However, she keeps a terrible secret--a prediction that she would one day be responsible for massive destruction and death. Though Celestia uses her clairvoyant abilities to help people, she worries that it is just a matter of time before she goes over to the dark side.
Her world changes when she unexpectedly astral projects to a place she didn't believe existed and meets a tortured man who needs her help. Will helping him cause her fears to come true, or will he sacrifice everything to save her?
I was glued to Demons from start to finish. I loved finally being able to get a glimpse into Eirik Baldurson's life. For six books (even though technically this book comes after Grimnirs) I have been dying to know what happened to Eirik after he left Raine and the gang. Demons completely satisfied my curiosity but also left me greedy and wanting more. Just when I think Ednah's writing can't surprise me she goes and proves me wrong. Her attention to detail and ability to transport her reading to every setting she puts before you is beyond amazing.
Eirik's life hasn't turned out quite the way he has wanted it to. Now, he's decided to meet his mother in the underworld. Eirik has never really had parents to set boundaries for him so his mother's high handed tactics don't sit well with him. He struggles with having his mother trying to control him and with himself. He want's to be the person he was born to become while pleasing his mother at the same time.
Celestia Devereaux embraces the fact that she is a witch. Although she has been told that she is not only evil but a harbinger of death Celestia knows she can't be any of those things because all she ever wants to do is help people. When Celestia unexpectedly crosses paths with Eirik, she makes it her mission to help him.
I'm afraid to say much more because I don't want to reveal too much and ruin the book for anybody. The back and forth between Eirik and Celestia gave their chemistry that much more meaning. You could feel how much they where drawn to each other but also how hard it was for them to admit how they felt to each other. Some books start out slow and ease you into the story but not with Ednah's books. Her books need to come with a seat belt because you are usually handing at the edge of your seat or twisted in knots hanging on for dear life like you're on a roller coaster. On a scale of 1 to 5 I have to give Demons a 10. Anything less just seemed wrong to me. This book had everything I've come to love about Ednah's books and so much more. If you are looking for a book with wonderful characters, a story with amazing attention to detail, conflict, or a book that is just too good to put down then Demons is the book for you. If you are a fan of the Runes Series or the Grimnirs books then you must run out and pick up your copy of Demons. If you are new to these books then you need to pick up Runes, Immortals, Grimnirs, Demons, Seeress, Souls, and Witches. Let Eirik show you what it is like in the underworld while Celestia shows you, you are more than what people say you are.
Runes series continues with Eirik's books.
