Marinette (Nessy) is half vampire and half human. She flees her maker, Hervidor, the strongest of their kind and the ruler of the underworld of vampires, who has kept Nessy locked away for centuries. Nessy flees to be able to live her life as she chooses where she meets and quickly falls in love with Charles. With the threat of Hervidor constantly at her heels, Nessy tries to make the final decision to stand and face him in the fight that will decide her fate.

When I first read the blurb on this book I thought kool a new Vampire book I can read. But when I started getting into Marinette's (a.k.a.Nessy) story I found it to be that was hard to put down. Nessy isn't like regular Vampires because she has never drank human blood nor has she taken a human life. You see, if Nessy can keep that up and her maker gets destroyed, she can return to being a human again which she wants more than anything after centuries of suffering her Vampiric fate. All that seems to be changing when Nessy meets Charles a full blooded Vampire whom she is instantly drawn to. She can't explain how she feels she just knows that she wants to be with Charles. We also get introduced to Hera, who is a Gulon (which is a large cat), and are sworn to protect humans from the brutal Vampires of the world. Only this Gulon is a friend to Nessy and has allowed her to see his human form. Nessy is on the run from her maker Hervidor and feels no where is safe. Now that she has met Charles she doesn't want anything to happen to him nor Hera so Nessy is in a constant state of fight or flight. Through out this story Nessy comes into her own and realizes she is stronger than she ever thought she could be. She learns that she can't keep running her whole life. I found her to be a very empowering character. On a scale of 1-10 I give this book a 10. The ending had me going omg and running straight to Sunrise To Sunset (Moon Rising Book #2) because I just needed to know what came next. If you love Vampires like I do, you should definitely pick up a copy of Moon Rising and discover the world in which Nessy inhabits.

Flashback Friday

This is a Meme, created by me, to highlight a book every Friday that I have read in the past up to December 31,2009.

Today's Flashback Friday Feature is Vampire Academy By Richelle Mead. This book is a start to a MUST READ series.
Cover Image
Vampire Academy (The Vampire Academy Series Book #1) By Richelle Mead
  • Pub. Date: August 2007
  • Publisher: Penguin Group (USA) Incorporated
  • Format: Paperback , 336pp
  • Sales Rank: 810
  • Age Range: Young Adult
  • Lexile: 640L What’s This?

St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school—it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimir's—the very place where they're most in danger. . . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy's ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world's fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

I just have to say how AWEASOME this book and the subsequent series is. This book is mainly about Rose Hathaway, Dimitri Belikov, Lissa Dragomir. Right away you can feel the bonds of friendship from Rose and Lissa. When this book starts you find these two teens on the run. We learn that Lissa is a Moroi Vampire and that Rose is a Dhampir training to be a Moroi Guardian. A short time later we are introduced to the HOTTEST Russian Guardian this side of forever by the name of Dimitri. Dimitri is there to take the girls back to St. Vladimir's Academy were the girls ran from. At first I wasn't sure if this Academy or Dimitri were on the side of good but you soon realize it wasn't the academy the girls were running away from as much as it was a feeling of danger that Rose got. She felt she had to take Lissa away from the academy to keep her safe. For being away so long Rose ends up being behind in some of her training therefore she needs a mentor to help her catch up and here enters Dimitri once again. From this point on you can feel a pull between Rose and Dimitri. This sets the stage for the rest of this series. To me Rose and Dimitri make this series. Don't get me wrong I love Lissa and the rest of the gang that come along but Dimitri and Rose rock my socks off. Everyone MUST READ this series. Trust me, you can not go wrong reading this series. Also makes a great Christmas present....^_^.

Interview And Giveaway With The Lovely Mahalia Levey Author Of Demonic Persuasion

I have had the distinct pleasure of getting to know Mahalia Levey recently and let me tell you she is just as nice as I hoped she would be. Mahalia was also nice enough to agree to an interview and she also gave me an excerpt that she rarely lets anyone see (I was floored by that honor alone....^_^). This is not your ordinary short interview by the way. Mahalia welcomed any questioned I had for her and by the time I was done I had 20. Let's see she answered 20 questions, gave 2 excerpts (1 being way HOT*), as if that wasn't awesome enough she has also decided to give away a copy of her book Demonic Persuasion to one lucky blog follower who leaves a comment. Did I not tell you she was so nice....^_^.

*Just keep in mind that excerpt number 2 contains ADULT CONTENT and is not for everyone....^_^.

1) Can you tell us a little bit about Demonic Persuasion?

Sure! Demonic Persuasion is the first story in my trilogy Prophesies Implied. It begins with Fatal being brought to her rightful birthplace where her parents and sibling are anxiously waiting to meet her again. Fatal's mother Nahale fell in love with a Demonic Prince, in her culture it was unacceptable. She was no longer welcome home but with Fatal's birth the Dine Gods deemed that Fatal be left with them for proper training as a Navajo Healer. With a mentor she was to stay for a short time period and then be allowed back with her parents. This story includes a realm build, species of demons, demonic law, basically a demonic society much like Earths.

To me the reasons are clear although there is Dine God Politics and Demonic Politics involved. Two warring cultures at polor opposites, a heavy dose of fear of the unknown, moral and familial values and intense emotions.

The beginning story is just that the beginning, what leads the heroine home and how she learns to embrace parts of herself, parts that don't evolve until she's left tribal lands.

2) What inspired you to write Demonic Persuasion?

I had a thought for a Skinwalker character in my head and a thought to link it to the demonic realm. Then I decided skin walker didn't quite fit with her so I began exploring other types of healing. In the second story we'll see some more navajo ways. Sand divination and healing by artistic tapestries etc. I plan on exploring more and really delving into the Dine side.

3) Did you always want to be a writer or did you see yourself taking a different career path?

I used to play around with writing as a kid. FanFic on Bay Watch and some of the other shows....Don't laugh. I think I even had sex however once I returned home from the military, none of it was there. Mama found the emo dark teen angst driven poetry too :)

4) What are 5 things that you can't write without?

Avenged Sevenfold Playing
MP4 player
Television on but muted

5) Were Fatal and Orobus based on anyone you know, or for that matter, were any of the characters?

No but there are a lot of character traits in Fatal that I see in myself.

6) How much of yourself, if any, did you put into your characters?

I'd say a lot. They'd say they're their own people. I think it depends. I like to get in deep with them, show how deep their traits go, reasons for their characteristics, how they become who they are. Then they pretty much write themselves.

7) If you were stuck on a deserted island what 5 things would be a must?

Lifetime of pomagranate body wash
Endless supply of books
A hawt blow up man with a nice *coughs* for those lonely nights
How to survive the wild deserted island handbook

8) What do you find most challenging about writing?

That it is constantly evolving, that I'm constantly learning something new and finding something I thought I'd mastered but not so much so.

9) Is there any genre you would like to try your hand at writing?

I want to do a medical suspense or a profile story without romance aspects in it. Or at least romance not the core plotting.

10) What do you do for fun?

I read to relax. Iceskating, ROCK CONCERTS! I love festivals. RockFest was great this year and I have pics up on my fb page. I go canoeing every summer with my sister and a large group of girlfriends. We have game night at home once a week where I get to be the scrabble dictionary. My fiance and I go to the movies a lot! For Free :) Other than that I like our little date nights where we disappear to go out to eat.

Born of a Navajo healer and a high-level prince of Hell, The Dine Gods demanded Fatal be turned over to her mother's tribe to learn their healing arts and kept away from demon hands. But with her tutelage came cruel segregation and disrespect because of her father's heritage. Not knowing why her life has suddenly come under demon attack, Fatal sets out, armed with her knowledge and her fighting skills, to take out any evil that gets in her way.

As prince of a lower level of Hell, Orobus signed a contract in blood that he be betrothed to Fatal, the high prince of Hell’s half-breed daughter. Oracle by birth, he isn’t privy to complete visions with regard to himself. Having forgotten the fateful night he signed the agreement, he’s thrust into the fight of his life—the fight to claim his woman! Come Hell or high water, he will take care of what is rightfully his, even if it means making her face both sides of her heritage and teaching her there is no shame.

Tag- A woman born half Navajo, half demon, must overcome her lifetime of separation from her demon family with the help of her demon mate.

    Excerpt #1:

Exiled. From the only home she’d ever known. After the first set of demons came to Fatal’s tribal lands, Sani, her grandfather and the Dine God of the Navajo, ordered her to leave permanently. Head held high, she packed her few belongings and left, determined to live her life on her own terms.

New experiences would be good for her, Fatal told herself while barhopping from Broadway to Westport Road, hoping to find the perfect atmosphere. A niggling itch under her skin kept her alert for possible trouble lurking in the shadows, but the cool metal caressing the inside of her thighs reminded her protection lay within arm’s reach. She never knew when a new set of demons would pop into her life and resented the intrusion she was forced to endure.

As she ambled down the darkened streets, she moved with a sense of ease, gaining blatant glances or admiring stares. She knew she was breathtaking, however bad omens had few friends, no dates, and no boyfriends. People in her hometown hadn’t hesitated to ask her for advice, or to chant with them when it suited their needs. She lived in solitude, with the exception of her occasional visits from her grandfather Sani, and Taima her mentor. She pushed her musings aside and moved through an alleyway that broke off to the next major street.

Silence surrounded her. She turned to head south when something caught her eye. Intrigued, she meandered down a side street and came to a demonic-looking, gargoyle-protected, granite structure. An eerie blood-red sign hung above thick vault doors with the words "Demonic Persuasion" in black paint. She’d heard of the club that catered to just about anyone’s needs and decided to get in line. Reaching the final steps to the entrance of the club, Fatal flashed a smile at the doorman and waited for him to move.

    "The fee’s ten bucks."

Digging in her boot, her gaze strayed to the bunched biceps peaking out of his black tee-shirt, roving over his cut physique. Slapping cash into his hand, she smiled. "Happy now?"

"I’ll be when you check your weapons, if it's even possible for you to have any hidden underneath your black corset and micro miniskirt."

"Oh, you’d be surprised what one can hide against near-naked skin. My name’s Ackchetta, most call me Fatal." She smirked and hiked up her skirt. Buried between her thighs were two small blades. Thin metal stars she'd hidden on her hipbones slid into her palms without effort. Flashing an annoyed expression, she dropped them in his outstretched hand. "There you go. I want them back, though."

"The one behind your back too, sweet stuff."

His droll expression did nothing to alleviate the feeling of nakedness without her weaponry. "Aren't you going to be polite and tell me your name?"

Anger set in. She smoothed her hands over her short skirt and adjusted her scant top. Her hackles rose when he spun her around and tapped the slender blade. "No one said you could touch!" She let out a growl and removed the extra-slim blade hidden under her corset top.

"My club, my rules. No fighting, no weapons, and no magic, if--you know any."

"Since you’re scared of a small thing like me, I think I can behave myself for a few hours."

He sent a dazzling smile her way and then turned to a young woman. Dropping her weapons into an outstretched hand, he whispered into the sleek brunette woman’s ear.

Fatal narrowed her eyes. "It's rude to whisper."

"Follow Marzena, she'll take you to the weaponry hold and issue you a ticket."

"I still didn’t catch your name."

    "I know."

Rude and hot. About to turn away, her breath hitched when the shimmering tattoos sprang to life on his skin. From head to toe he was a sight to behold. Long black hair touched his shoulders. His blue eyes sparkled when he smiled. Thick muscles bunched with every movement. Long legs encased in black trousers, muscular thighs brought a silent moan of want to her lips. She’d never wanted like this. She stole a look at his goatee and wondered how it’d feel scraping across her face, his breath on her mouth before he kissed her with the same intensity he stared at her with. She’d do anything to feel those lips on hers, to touch the once-broken, too-many-times-healed nose.

    11) Is there an author and/or author's who have inspired or influenced you in any way?

Yes! So many have. I joined a forum for fun that was a fan base for Sherrilyn Kenyon. I learned fan fic wasn't for me. That my charac's like their own story and setting, not borrowing or building onto something not theirs. Kate Douglas was the first erotic author I read. Wolf Tales *sighs* I've loved Harelquin since I was a teen sneaking grandmas books. As a child I was a huge reader. I read the classics before before highschool fell in love with Scarlet O'Hara. Pined for the heroines of Shakespheare. I wanted to be Helen of Troy....before Brad Pitt and the movie was made. I fancied being a impish fairey or the wench....yes I did say that. I wanted to be a pirates wench. I wanted that bad boy! Still do :) I could go on for hours on my favorite teenage reads.

Karen Marie Moning's Highlanders won me over. Lydsay Sands Vampires make me melt. I could go on forever!

To make it shorter... I'd say I've always had a high affinity for how words are strung together to form a vivid picture. Word weaving! I also love history more so I'm enamored with reading about all the wars that have transpired over time. In highschool I was all about the Mob, College more about Spartans, Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great and I used to quote the Art of War and shhhh. Marcus Aurelius.

    12) Where is your favorite place to write?

In the summer on the deck in my back yard.

    13) Where would your ultimate getaway destination be?

    I fancy Egypt.

    14) I know most author's don't have a say on what their book cover looks like, so I am wondering, is that the same for you or do you get to tell them what you want your cover to look like?

I think that that depends on the publisher. There's a huge form all pubs send out for authors to fill in vivid detail. The more detail of what you want don't want the more it might turn out the way you envision. Realisticly some of the poses of favored models may not fit, there might not be a god tattooed the way it's portrayed in the story. It's a give and take. I try to be as thorough as I can. I have had the option of saying yay or nay and I've been told it stands as is. It just depends.

    15) On average how long does it take you to write one of your novels?

Depends on real life. I have teenagers and a sister who's been in and out of the heart institute for the last two yrs. When she's re admitted I lose time writing. I flip between 40 thousand words to 20 thousand or less. I like to do a mixture of short and long to have something fresh. The quick reads do well to give my brain time to rest and think up the next long novel. I am working on a 55thousand word novel currently.

    16) There are some author's who write books together like P.C. Cast And Kristin Cast of The House Of Night Series, so my question to you is, if you could Who would you like to write a book with?

I'd love to write a story with Kate Douglas, she brought me into this world so it'd be amazing. I don't know I know so many fantastic authors. I do have a co-writer named Mercury Sexton we'll be having a fun short read titled "Cherry Flavored Sex" coming out summer of next year.

    17) How long does it take you to read a book for fun?

That depends. I can read a 300 page book in a few hours, but It can also take a shorter novella the same amount of time based on depth of plot and how many characters are involved.

    18) What is your favorite time period to write?

I'm branching out. I've done current and early 1900's. I'd say current because it's easier :)

As a note I do write a handful of different genres. I enjoy the paranormal and sci fi genre because it widens my scope of imagination. I building piece by piece worlds and all that involves them. I enjoy contemporary because it feels fresh to me and a variety of cultural stories or Interracial couples because we live in a mixed society and rarely see happy endings.

    19) What do you hope people can take away from your story when they finish it?

I hope they get the underlying meaning of the plot.

    20) What do you have coming up next (i.e. another book or perhaps a book signing)?

I'm working on a few projects right now. Her Safe Haven is probably going to be my next finished novella,a paranormal menage.

    Excerpt #2:

Orobus pulled Fatal after him until they turned down the main pathway toward the third level in Hell. He took in her slumped form, her dejected gaze, and his anger dissipated. "The chip on your shoulder is weighing you down?"

"Fuck you, I told you I wasn't ready."

He knew she burned hot with anger. He wasn’t prepared to feel her rage, or for her to unleash her fury on him. Being fist-planted in the mouth by a too-hot-to-handle mate caught him off guard. He didn’t have time to recoil and block her fast jab, or her second. The more he moved, the quicker her punches landed dead on, his mouth, nose, throat and ear before he grappled with her and took control. "Damn it, woman, you don’t want to fight me."

"Yes, I do." She screamed as if the torment came from her soul.

He should hire her as a bodyguard, fucking spider-monkey. She climbed all over him, hit all the right pressure points to take him down. The demon inside him growled to be released. Past the boiling point, he hit the roof. His body changed from dark brooding man to menacing beast. He couldn’t stop the horns from protruding from his head. Sulfur coated his grey flesh and permeated the air around them. Orobus hissed, and his forked tongue flicked out, catching a drop of blood on her exotic skin. He wrapped a hand around her delicate neck in a vice grip. With gritted teeth, he ignored the urge to snap her spine and shot her a glare instead. Peels of smoke enveloped them, leaving clouds of ash raining down on the scorched spot left in their wake.

Smoke still unfurled around them as they arrived at his home. Orobus gave Fatal one final chance to calm down. He snorted and trapped her delectable, angry body between his powerful thighs and fought the urge to throttle her. She continued the endless struggle of fighting him tooth and nail. Whatever small remnants of patience remained in him, left. The smoke cleared with his long strides. He snarled low, a sound sure to knock fear of the unknown into her.

Too enraged to open the door, he grasped the iron knob and pulled it off the hinge, paying little heed to the crashing sound of the door hitting the floor. Enraged, he slammed her against the wall. "No one ever told you pissing off a demon is bad sport? Angering your mate is even worse." He growled and ripped her clothing from her body, enabling him to plow into her unhindered by cloth. Her wet sheath meet him, he felt the need to work off the excess energy she exhibited. Her bucking body changed to pliancy, and she shifted beneath him.

    "Fuck me hard," she moaned.

He knew she needed it hard and fast. Her hunger spoke volumes. "Hard and fast."

He lifted her from the crater hole in the wall and carried her into the kitchen. With one long swipe, dishes and clutter on his table crashed to the floor before he laid her across the surface. The wood under them cracked and splintered, but held strong against their combined weight.

He shook off the slivers of wood under his skin and held fast to her body. Wet and hot, she clung to him like a fine glove, pulling him deeper into her core. The lovely vision of her demonic form made him want her more—magenta with blue eyes, a definite exotic beauty. Her nails ripped into him. His actions had her bucking off the table, writhing under him in pleasure. Her ardor, her scent of arousal assailed his nostrils, had him salivating to possess and own every inch of her strong-willed body. "I will break you of this senseless need to self-destruct, and let yourself be loved." He spoke each syllable as he surged in and out of her welcoming body.

"In a pig’s eye," she spat.

"Don't tempt me, sweetheart, to act my worst." His lips crushed hers. He thrust his tongue into her mouth, taking advantage of her parted lips poised to retort. Fueled, he licked the very recesses of her mouth, drawing her within him, pounding with savage thrusts. One hand anchored her hip, giving her no reprieve to move back or gyrate against him. He planned to fuck the rage out of them both. Sweat-drenched, he plunged time and again into her sweet pussy.

She took the brutality well. Her nails dug into him, encouraging his worst. He noticed her flushed form, her trembling body, her legs tense around his hips. He pinned her with a steely gaze, plunged one last time into her fruitful body and released his seed.

    "Orobus," she cried.

Spent and calm, he shifted and picked her up. Her lids drooped and her body shifted from exhaustion. He brushed the wood chips and splinters off her skin and carried her into their room. Once he got the sheets pulled down, he lowered her onto her side and took great pains not to jar her exhausted form.

After he covered her, he stood there for many minutes. His mind swam. What in the heck am I gonna do with her?

While sleeping, she held the look of an angel. Awake was another matter entirely. "Give her time," he mumbled to himself, and climbed into bed beside her. One arm slid under her body. He pressed up behind her, his body spooned with hers. I’m not the spooning type. The last thought entering his brain bothered him.

When I got this book, I only had the blurb to go by so I wasn't sure what to truly expect. Let me tell you I so need to read book #2. Ackchetta a.k.a. Fatal and Orobus are the main characters in this book. Fatal is half demon/half human (Navajo) and a healer while Orobus is an oracle and has these visions, that when it comes to himself, are not complete. He is also a lower level demon prince who serves his master Azazel. While Fatal is on the run from her father whom, she feels abandoned her at birth, she ends up at the club Demonic Persuasion owned and operated by Orobus. That is when this story starts to kick up into high gear (in more ways than one). Did I mention this book is white HOT!!!! The scenes when Fatal and Orobus get together are always intense and yet you can always see there is more to them then just the heavy sex they have. You see a girl starved for love and acceptance and a man who actually learns to care for someone other than himself. For him it is normal to not feel things, being the demon that he is, but with Fatal all that changes. You would think that this would be enough of a good story but wait Mahalia throws in an underhanded plot devised by someone you wouldn't expect. This book had me captivated as well as blushing....lmao. I have never read a book that centered exclusively on demons and I found it to be an unexpected thrill. Mahalia sure knows how to make a demon sound sexy. On a scale of 1-10 I give this book a 10. If you are 18+ and truly looking for your not so typical demon story were love and trust can make a difference without coming off as corny than you really need to get a copy of Demonic Persuasion. I wasn't sure how I would feel about this story but I am proud to say I really loved it. I can't wait til book #2.

Merrick brings more adventure and passion than any woman could want. Can she withstand the temptations? The spell she weaves over him is more than he can resist, Merrick offers her a choice; either come with him until he tires of her…or die.

King Of The Unblessed was such a great story. I literally could not put this book down. As soon as I finished it I went on line and bought Faery Queen book #2 and Stone Queen #3 in the trilogy. It was really that good. There was just something about Merrick and Juliana's story that was just so amazing. Juliana longs for some sort of adventure in her life and Merrick is just existing in his life with no direction and no hope. When these two people get together all that changes. Juliana brings love and warmth back to Merrick's life. Merrick gives Juliana the greatest adventure of her life while showing her how she taught him to love. What woman doesn't love a man with a tortured soul that they feel they can help fix. Did I mention that Merrick is smoking HOT and all I can say is yummy with a spoon. This is definitely a re-read kind of book in my opinion. Everyone 18+ should really check this book out and see for themselves. Then when your done check out books 2 and 3. This trilogy is so worth it.

Can Eliza’s and Hank’s marriage be saved or is it already too late after his affair with town tart Sylvia? Her home wrecking ways threaten to end all three of their lives. HIV, looms over then like a dark shroud. Can any be saved? Sterling an ancient vampire mourns the loss of his beloved Alana. He never thought he’d find another woman to take her place. Yet, he finds hope in Eliza. Will Eliza accept his dark gift before it’s too late? Can she find it within herself to love a creature of the night? Is it possible his love can cure her?

I really enjoyed this book. It was a very fast read which normally I am not crazy about but even though this story was fast paced it didn't feel rushed. Eliza and Sterling are the unlikely couple in this story. Hank being the cheating husband in this story is easy to dislike. He just seems the type of guy who always gets what he wants no matter whom it might hurt. Eliza seems the type who wants to put a band-aid on the problem and move on. Sterling seems to be the brooding Vampire whom just gets a raw deal out of life or in this case his afterlife. Three people dealing with very different issues are placed in a no win situation or so it may seem....^_^. I would love to see this story written in novel form if that makes sense. What I am trying to say is I would love for this story to be at least 300 plus pages so I can get a more in depth back story and more of the budding romance between the two characters. Eliza and Sterling's story is really good. Jocelyn's story telling is something I believe I will have to experience again. On a scale of 1-10 I give this story a 10. Although I do wish this story was longer I did enjoy it and I knew it was a short story from the start. I think anyone 18+ for is looking for a nice short story or just a quick read should check out this book.

College freshman Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation. When Claire heads off-campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don't show many signs of life, but they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood.

Glass Houses is the start to a great vampire series entitled The Morganville Vampire Series. Claire Danvers is in a new state (Texas) and is a freshman at Texas Prairie University. When life on campus becomes life or death Claire decides to find of campus housing. That is how we are introduced to Shane Collins, Eve Rosser, and Michael Glass. Claire goes to "The Glass House" to interview as a potential roommate. From that point on Claire's world is turned upside down. Her life is constantly in danger and you find that Morganville has a deadly secret and could just be the end of Claire and her new friends. This is a quick read and very enjoyable. I LOVED this book and the whole series. Yes, there is danger in this series but there is also humor. Rachel finds a great balance between both without taking away from the story. If you enjoy vampires this is a book you really need to read and please don't stop there because the whole series is just a good.
